E. Gene Freed

Ephraim Gene Freed, 87, of Danville, passed away at 11:15 PM on Monday October 17, 2011 at the V.A. Illiana Healthcare System in Danville. He was born on March 27, 1924 in Cayuga Indiana to Ephraim and Ethel (Harvey) Freed. He had three brothers and four sisters. Gene married Mary Morrow, she preceded him in death. Survivors include four daughters- Judy (Tom) Marsh, Mary Jean Holstein, Julie (Rick) Lomax, Joy (Elvis) Freed, one son- Roger (Kathryn) Freed all of Danville. Two brothers- Melvin and Marvin Freed, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grand children. Gene was an offset printer working at Recording and Statistical, Illinois Printing and Eureka Printing and even after retirement in the Florida during the 1980's. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII in the Pacific from Hawaii to occupation of Japan, making three landings, twice wounded and receiving three bronze stars. Gene was past president of the Danville Coin Club, Danville stamp club and Jim Beam bottle club. Also, maintained membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, NRA, and the NSSA. A Celebration of Gene's Life will take place on Friday October 21, 2011 from 10-11 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM after the visitation at the funeral home with Pastor David Rumley officiating. Burial will take place at Bethel Cemetery with military honors. Memorials can be made in Gene's name to the Danville VA Illiana Hospital or the VFW Post #728 in Danville.
