Danville- E. Elaine Swift, 91, of Danville passed away at 11:30 AM on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Hawthorne Inn of Danville. She was born on August 17, 1920 in Rankin, IL to Clarence A. and Maude E. Johnson Peterson. She married Joe M. Swift on April 10, 1943 in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death in 1988. Surviving are three children, Joe C. (Cathy) Swift of Philadelphia, PA, Kelcey E (Dan) LaMar of Atlanta, GA, and James S. Swift of Quincy, IL; a sister, E. Diane (Bob) Thorstenson of Loda, IL; son-in-law Scott Perlet; seven grandchildren, Heather (David) Pearce, Morgane (John) Morris, Caroline (Rob) Stansbury, Shauna (Ryan) Werling, Tom LaMar, Anne (Kris) Townsend, and Lisa (Chris) Creamer; seven great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Sawyer Pearce, Addison and Mason Werling, Joey Morris, and Scarlett and Evan Stansbury; and several nieces and nephews, with special niece Sally (Nick) Peterson-Falzone. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan L. Perlett, and three siblings, Eugene Peterson, Leona Sanders, and Carl Peterson. Elaine was a 1938 graduate of Danville High School and also of Utterback Business College. She was a bookkeeper for Swift Auto Supply and also a secretary for District #118 until her retirement in 1987. She was also a faithful member at Bethel Lutheran Church. Elaine was known for her famous golf trips with her sister-in-law, Phylis, and enjoyed bowling, bridge, and golf. She always encouraged everyone to eat their green veggies, although it came out later that even she didn't like them. Most of all, Elaine enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. The family would like to give a special thanks and appreciation to Mary Ann Galloway for her care and special relationship with Elaine. A service to celebrate the life of Elaine Swift will be held at 12 PM on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Danville. Pastor Ed Stone will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services, with burial at Springhill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 AM-12 PM prior to the services on Wednesday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville is in charge of arrangements.
