Dwight H. Sherer, 81 of Danville, passed away at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville. He was born February 6, 1923 in Georgetown, Illinois, the son of Ivan and Anna (Sheppard) Sherer, Sr. He married Opal King on November 7, 1942 in Georgetown, Illinois. He is survived by: his wife of 61 years, Opal Sherer of Danville; 1 Son- Greg (Kim) Sherer of Westville; 2 Daughters - Sandra (Paul) Seyfert and Carol (Paul) Pridemore - both of Covington, IN; 11 Grandchildren- Randy Seyfert, Susan Pacey, Paula Brasel, Sherry Phelps, Sally Machala, Eric Sherer, Amy Sherer, Kristi Sherer, Dawn Young, Amber Mann, Katie Sykes; 11 Great-Grandchildren- Daniel Seyfert, Kristen and Alison Pacey, Aaron and Alex Brasel, Makayla Phelps, Kylie and Evan Sherer, Austin and Kyle Young and Brayten Huber; 1 Brother- Ivan "Skeets" Sherer,Jr. of Georgetown and 1 Sister- Ila Jean Barnes of Lake Latawona, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 Sister- Lois Hayes. Dwight worked as a Clerk for the Danville Post Office for 40 years until his retirement in 1986. Member of Second Church of Christ in Danville. He served as a Corporal in the US Army during WWII, serving in Europe and the Philippines. He was a Cubs fan, enjoyed Nascar racing, was a member of the Danville Elk's Club, volunteered for the Elk's at the VA hospital for many years, member of the American Legion, Post #210, member and past commodore of the Danville Boat Club, and Past President of the Red Mask Players.
