Dr. William H. Andrews, 87, of Danville passed away on March 8, 2007 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. William was born May 28th 1919 in New York City. He married Catherine J. Alger on April 15, 1950 at Chanute Air Base in Rantoul. She preceded him in death on August 31, 1984. Survivors include son Thomas Andrews of Danville; Five granddaughters Vicki, Jennifer, Debbie, Ashley, & Melissa; three great grandchildren: Amanda, Christopher, great granddaughter McKenna; and three nieces. William was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, four brothers, & son Terry in 1995. William served in the U.S. Army for 4 years as a radio operator overseas in WWII and later graduated from Chicago School of Optometry and reenlisted in the Army as a Lieutenant stationed at Chanute Air Base and other installations. He later worked for the House of 950 Glasses from 1954 until becoming a self employed optometrist in 1964, he partially retired in 1984 working only part time from 1984-1986 at Wisser Optical and started at Pearl Vision in 1986 until retiring in 1987. He enjoyed playing bridge, was an avid golfer, and a pilot. William was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge. A Celebration of Williams Life will be held at 2:00 Tuesday March 13th 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor Bonnie Cary officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Eastlawn Cemetery in Urbana. Memorial may be made to American Heart Association.
