Dr. Stephen L. Wilson, age 73, of Danville, passed away at 7:14 pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Provena USMC in Danville. He was born November 29, 1935 in Danville the son of Clarence and Alta (Gones) Wilson. He married Carol McGilvrey on November 21, 1977 in Danville. She survives. Dr. Wilson is also survived by two sons: Dr. Chris (Barbara) Wilson of North Carolina, Dan (Linda M.) Turpin of St. Louis, MO; three daughters: Betsy L. Wilson of Danville, Carrie (Edward) Cunningham of Mount Zion, IL, Linda (Chris) White of Danville; one brother: Stan Wilson of Bloomington, IN; and seven grandchildren: Kayla Wilson, Samantha White, Melissa Turpin, Samantha Turpin, Alexis White, Chloe Cunningham and Audrey Cunningham. His parents preceded him in death. Dr. Wilson graduated from Young America High School in Hume/Metcalf, IL. After graduating, he served two years in the United States Navy where he was commissioned with Public Health Service as a dentist on an Indian Reservation in Arizona. After serving his country, Dr. Wilson returned and attended Indiana University and graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He ran a general practice in Bloomington, IN for two years and then returned to Indiana University and attained his degree in Orthodontics. He moved to Danville where he opened an Orthodontics practice, which he had for 31 years, until his retirement in 2005. He served on the staff at Lakeview Hospital for a number of years, and as a Board Member of the YMCA. Dr. Wilson was a member of the Danville Country Club, the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Antique Auto Club, and the Apollo Great Lakes RV Group. He enjoyed fishing, sailing, golfing, playing cards, and traveling. He was an avid reader and loved watching old movies. He will be deeply missed by everyone that knew him. A celebration of life service for Dr. Stephen Wilson will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. Burial will follow the service at Springhill Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dr. Wilsons name to either the Danville Rescue Mission or the American Heart Association.
