Dr. Stephen John Chantos

Dr. Stephen John Chantos, 75, of Danville, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Danville Illiana Health Care Systems. An adoring husband, loving father, family member and endearing friend, he was comforted with laughter in his life every day. Dr. Chantos was born in Hegeler, IL to Steve and Genevieve Chantos on April 14, 1936. He was a proud alumnus of Schlarman High School, Lewis College in Lockport, and Loyola University College of Dentistry in Chicago. He enlisted and served as a captain in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Danville. Other exultant achievements include service as President of the Danville District Dental Society, membership in Whos Who Among American Dentists, and opening a dental clinic for natives of the Amazon rainforest near Bogata, Columbia, South America. He is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Steve (Kyla), Scott (Carrie); daughter, Ellyn (Jerrod), his sister, Bernice; brother, Frank (Pat); four grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah, Noah, and Ellaina; nieces and nephews; and very dear friends who remained by his side. He was preceded in death by his father, Steve; mother, Genevieve; stepmother, Josephine; and brother, Bob. Per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Doc would like to live on in our hearts and minds. Please bethink his love of laughter, jokes, dentistry, dear family and friends, and his favorite farewell, Yall keep smilin now, you hear? Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home has been asked to handle the cremation. The family has asked that all memorial donations be made to either Provena Cancer Center of Danville, and/or the Bethel Lutheran Church in Danville.
