Dr. Richard G. Scering

Dr. Richard G. Scering, 88, of Covington, Indiana, passed away at 3:10am, Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at his home. He was born on January 28, 1932, in Thorntown, Indiana, the son of Ora and Roxanne {Davidson} Scering. He was first married to Grace Sikes in 1950 and later divorced. He was then united in marriage to Patsy Thomas on July 1, 1964, until her passing on January 29, 2013.

Richard is survived by his five children, Karin Miller of Thornton, IN, Kim (David) Allen of Catlin, IL, Julee (Randy) Paddock of Fountain Inn, SC, Loralyn Hutchins of Seminole, FL, & Susan (Allen) Julian of Danville, IL; his thirteen grandchildren, Megan Soderholm, Ryan Miller, Stefanie Miller, Dawn Drinkut, Joseph Drinkut, Joshua Paddock, John Mark Paddock, Lauren Riley, Evan Hutchens, Hillary Lively, Jessica Lively, Kathryn Henson, Grace Henson; his eight great grandchildren; and his sister, Mary (Ray) Lashbrook, of Zephyrhills, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeffery Scering in 2010; five brothers; and two sisters.

Richard was a proud Veteran of the US Marines serving during the Korean War. He graduated from Indiana University as a dentist in 1960 and served many people throughout the years in his community. He loved to garden and go fishing. He also enjoyed reading in his spare time. He will be missed by many whose lives he touched.

A Memorial Visitation will be held 3:00pm to 6:00pm (EST), Saturday, June 13, 2020, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932. As per his wishes, he will be accorded cremation rites. The family encourages family and friends to do Memorial Trees through his Tribute Wall to be planted in memory of Richard.
