Dr. Ned Ring, 82, of Danville, Illinois, passed away on September 16th at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Ned Mason Ring was born in Browns, Illinois on February 23, 1927 to Robert and Audrey Hawkins Ring. He lived in Albion, Illinois, where his father was County Superintendent of Schools, throughout his early childhood. He moved to Springfield, Illinois in high school, and, after graduating from Springfield High School, immediately joined the Navy at seventeen years of age. He served as a Pharmacists Mate First Class until the end of WWII. Ned attended and graduated from the University of Illinois School of Dentistry in Chicago. His dental school fraternity, Delta Sigma Delta, was on the same block as St. Pauls Methodist Episcopal Church in Chicago, where he met and married his wife of fifty-eight years, Joan Laury. Many of his dental school friends are still friends to this day. After dental school Ned and Joan moved to Danville where Ned established the dental practice he enjoyed for forty-eight years. Ned was devoted in attending local Dental Society meetings, and is past President of the Illinois State Dental Society, visiting every Dental Society chapter in the state during his term. He also served as Treasurer and Vice President of the state Dental Society. He was actively involved with the Lake View School of Nursing, the Danville Kiwanis Club, the Danville Country Club, and several boards and committees at his church, St. James United Methodist Church. Ned has been retired for thirteen years and has remained active in the community. Upon retirement he tutored local refugees in English as a Second Language at Danville Area Community College. Ned was also a proud member of the Timid Ten, a golfing group comprised of many of his closest Danville friends. Ned enjoyed golfing, hiking or riding horseback through the woods at the family farm, music, and his friends and family. Ned is survived by his wife, Joan Laury Ring of Danville, Illinois, his three children, Ned Mason Ring Jr. and wife Maelene Belo Ring of Manila, Phillippines, Laury Jo Ring Klasky and husband Joel Klasky of Cave Creek, Arizona, and Barbara Jean Ring McKone and husband Kevin McKone of Kirkwood, Missouri. Ned also is survived by five grandchildren, Sarah Joanne Klasky of Cave Creek, Arizona, Robert Abraham Klasky of Phoenix, Arizona, Vanessa Belo Ring of Manila, Phillippines, Grace Larkin McKone and Thomas Hawkins McKone of Kirkwood, Missouri. Celebration of Neds life will be held at 2 pm Sunday, September 20th at St. James United Methodist Church, 504 North Vermilion, Danville, Illinois with Reverend Kenneth Cox officiating. Burial will be at Gundy Cemetery near Bismarck, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 11am to 3pm Saturday, September 19th at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville.
