Danville Dr. Miguel Rubio Ochoa, 89, of Danville passed into the peace of everlasting life at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL on Saturday, September 26, 2020.

Miguel was born on February 12, 1931, the son of the late Jesus Ochoa Ponce de Len and Maria Luisa Ochoa Rubio in the village of Zitcuaroa beautiful, mountainous city in the Mexican state of Michoacn, where he attended medical school. He met his wife, Geraldine Wall, during his medical residency in Chattanooga, TN, where she was the evening supervisor for nursing. They married on August 3, 1957 in Ringgold, GA and she survives.

Miguel was a beloved family medicine physician and general surgeon who served the community of Danville for more than 30 years. His life was marked by continuously extending a loving hand to his patients with remarkable bravery, inspiring skill, and sincere compassion. Throughout his extraordinary medical career, he performed the first open heart surgery in Danville, and saved hundreds of lives. He was willing to carry out complicated surgeries that others may not have attempted. He also founded the Vermilion Medical Center in 1977 and guided the careers of many esteemed physicians in the Danville area. He was always seen helping every person he came across, and it was through his kindness and generosity that he is revered by so many.

Miguel was a devoted father and deeply cherished his family. He was a teacher of humility, thoughtfulness, and to reach out to others in need. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Geraldine Ochoa of Danville, three sons: Michael (Susan) Ochoa of Chicago, IL, Edward Ochoa of Greenwood, IN, and Victor Ochoa of Danville, IL, as well as two daughters: Madalyn (Richard) Ochoa-Berner of Danville, IL, and Barbara (Gianpaolo) Ochoa of Indianapolis, IN, along with three grandchildren: Richie Berner, Rachael Berner, and Mark Ochoa.

Miguel is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Mayica Domnguez Ochoa, Lilia Briseo, Manuel Domnguez, Maria Cristina Ochoa Rubio, Ines Ochoa Len, Salvador Carrillo Ochoa, Jesus Ochoa Len, Victor Manuel Ochoa Len, Carlos Agustin Ochoa Len, Martha Elena Ochoa Len, Maria de los Angeles Ochoa Len, Javier Ochoa Len, Jorge Ochoa Len, Maria Isabel Ochoa Len, and Marisa Ochoa Len.

Miguel is preceded in death by siblings Enrique Ochoa Rubio, Hctor Ochoa Rubio, Josefina Ochoa Rubio, Oscar Javier Briseo, and Jose Luis Juregui.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5, 2020, from 5 8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, IL, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. There will be a Prayer Service at 8:00 PM immediately following the visitation.

It is kindly requested that those in attendance of the visitation or service wear a mask and practice social distancing.
