Champaign - Dr. Michael Earl Schlesinger, 75, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at his home in Champaign, Ill. He was born on February 23, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA to Samuel and Beryl (Robinson) Schlesinger. Dr. Schlesinger is survived by his first wife Barbara Chesbrough; children Mylynda (Mordechai) Massart, Michelle (John) Simpson, Savva Korolev, and Sam Schlesinger; grandchildren Louren, Noah, Emmit, Elyara, Chloe, and Chayim; sister Jacqueline Cohan; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Sadie. He was preceded in death by his parents, second wife Natalia Andronova, and brother Jeffrey Schlesinger. Dr. Schlesinger was a professor at the University of Illinois for 29 years in the department of Atmospheric Science. He previously taught at Oregon State University for 14 years and University of California, Los Angeles for 6 years. Dr. Schlesinger was the recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize through his work with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Memorial visitation will be held in Dr. Schlesinger's honor from 5-7 pm on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign, IL 61820.
