Dr. Grover Seitzinger

Dr. Grover L. Seitzinger, age 94 died September 27, 2019 at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman, Illinois. He was born August 9th, 1925 to Leonard Eli and Bertha Edith Clark Seitzinger in Crawford County, Illinois. He attended a rural elementary school and graduated from Flat Rock High School in 1943. He spent three years in the Medical Corp of the U.S. Navy, mostly in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged from the Navy as a PharM2c. He entered the University of Illinois at Urbana, Illinois in Premedical studies in 1946. He completed his medical studies at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 1952. After an internship at Cook County Hospital and Residency in Pathology at Augustana Hospital in Chicago, Illinois he became Board Certified in Pathology. In 1957 he joined the Medical Staff of Lake View Hospital as Pathologist and Director of Medical Laboratories. He continued in that capacity until his retirement in 1988. He was on the Medical Staff of St. Elizabeth Hospital and Consulting Pathologist at Paris Community Hospital, Paxton Community Hospital, Hoopeston Community Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville.

In 1953 he married June Rose Jackson of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She survives. They have two daughters, Brenda Gray of Godfrey, Illinois and Karen (Todd) Baxter of Columbus, Indiana. He has four grandsons, Jared (Amber) Gray, Kyle (Juliet) Gray, Stephen Baxter and Daniel Baxter, and three great grandchildren, Piper Gray and Jackson Gray, and Atlas Gray. In addition to his wife and family he is survived by one sister Mary Joan OBrian of Sullivan, Indiana and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clark, Dwight, Vaughn, C.W. and Vance Seitzinger and sister Nedra Seitzinger Johnson.

Dr. Seitzinger was a member of various organizations throughout this life: Vermilion County Medical Society, President; Illinois State Medical Society, American Medical Association, American Association of Blood Banks. Fellow of College of American Pathologists, Fellow American Society of Clinical Pathologist, Illinois Society of Pathologists, President; Illinois Association of Blood Banks, Aesculapian Society of Wabash Valley, Lakeview Medical Center Board, Provena United Samaritan Medical Center Board and Foundation, University of Illinois Foundation, Danville Area Community College Foundation, Danville Symphony Orchestra Board, Medical Director of Danville Elks Blood Bank, Danville Golden "K" Kiwanis, Kiwanian of the Year and Hixon Award, Danville Country Club, Danville Boat Club, American Cancer Society Board, American Heart Association Board, Board of University of Illinois Spurlock Museum, Life Member University of Illinois Alumni Association, Danville, Illinois Alumni Club, President; Danville Chamber of Commerce, He served on several Committees and was a Consultant to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Education was very important to Dr. Seitzinger, not only for himself but for others. As Director of the Lakeview School of Medical Technology he arranged affiliations with surrounding four-year Colleges in Illinois and Indiana to convert the School from a three-year Diploma program to a four-year Degree program. He served on the Advisory Committee for the Premedical Studies Division at Eastern Illinois University. He was on the original Executive Committee that established the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana, Illinois. He continued as a Volunteer Faculty Member for over 25 years, retiring as a Clinical Associate Professor in Pathology in 1992.

Per his wishes he will be cremated and will have a private interment at a later date.
