Dr. Gordon L. Edgington, passed away on Friday, December 14 at 4:15 am at the Illiana Veterans Affairs Hospital in Danville, IL. He was born January 28, 1927 to Andrew and Helen Pollitt Edgington.

Gordons next eighteen years were spent on a farm near Collison, Illinois. He graduated from Henning High School in May 1945. In June 1945 he was called to active duty with the United States Army Air Force. He spent thirteen months on Guam-Mariana Island in the South Pacific Theatre of Operation.

On February 7, 1948 he married the former Lois Maxine Schofield. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Gayle (Jeff) Tuttle of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and Ann (Bill) Newton of Indianapolis, Indiana. Six grandchildren survive: Ben (Sara) Tuttle of Harleysville, Pennsylvania; Christy Wadleigh of West Palm Beach, Florida; Katie Tuttle of Greenville, South Carolina; Ryan (Silvana) Tuttle of Atlanta, Georgia; Eric (Cherith) Newton of Greenville, South Carolina; and Kyle (Ceann) Newton of Forney, Texas. He is survived by seventeen great grandchildren and his sister Frances (Ray) Newton of Fort Worth, Texas.

Dr. Edgington received his biblical training at Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, Minnesota, and was ordained to the Gospel Ministry on May 21, 1965. He received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree on June 4, 1979 from Indiana Baptist College in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Gordon had the privilege of serving his Lord for many years. He pastored churches in Fremont, Nebraska and Oak Lawn, Illinois. He was the Missions Director of the Association of Independent Baptist Churches of Illinois for 24 years. He and his wife traveled over one million miles in the state of Illinois, ministering to churches and starting eight new works. The association was used to start a total of 24 churches in 24 years. He counted it a privilege to serve the Lord.

A Celebration of Gordons Life will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 1211 North Vermilion Danville, IL. Dr. Eric Newton, Gordons grandson, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held from 5:00 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion Street Danville, IL.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Church Planting ministry of The Association of Independent Baptist Churches of Illinois, c/o First Baptist Church, 819 Washington St., Tecatonica, IL 61063, or to the Missions Program of First Baptist Church, Danville.
