Dr. Gilbert Joseph Himebaugh

Evansville, Ind. - Mrs. Emma Eloise Galloway Himebaugh, 97, died April 25, 2014. Dr. Gilbert Joseph Himebaugh, 97, died July 20, 2014. They resided in Evansville, Indiana. Emma Eloise was born April 5, 1917 in Covington, Indiana to Nelson and Hannah Belle (Bantz) Galloway, who were descendants of the earliest settlers. She attended Lafayette Business College and Indiana University. She was employed as an underwriter at the Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Company of Indianapolis. She was an active member of The Methodist Temple, Vanderburgh County Medical Auxiliary, Medical Mrs., DAR, The Kennel Club, The Petroleum Club, and several bridge groups. Dr. Gilbert Joseph Himebaugh was born September 10, 1916 in Speed, Indiana to James Elliott and Edna Mae (Hanger) Himebaugh. Dr. Himebaugh was a graduate of Indiana University followed by a general internship at the Indianapolis City Hospital. He served as a Battalion Surgeon in the U.S. Army stationed at Walter Reed Hospital and in Okinawa. After the war he established a general practice in Veedersburg, Indiana then accepted a general surgical fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Upon Completion he opened a surgical practice in Evansville and retired in 1985. Dr. and Mrs. Himebaugh were married 71 years and are survived by; son, Gilbert J. Himebaugh (Betty Clark) of Newburgh, Indiana; daughters, Cynthia Forbes (Frank), of Evansville, Indiana; Sarah Ebbeler (Kurt) of Conroe, Texas and Elizabeth Smith (Philip) of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
