Danville Gerald Frank Sooley born August 16, 1926 the son of Frank and Martha (Matthews) in Waukegan, IL and passed from this life on November 3, 2022,
The Scripture that best described his life is found in Proverbs 3: 'Let love and faithfulness never leave you...then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.'
Dr Sooley was loving and faithful to his wife of 66 years, Betty (Schad) Sooley, whom he married on June 26, 1954 and preceded him in death July 16, 2020. He was loving and faithful to his family: son, Kevin Shawn (Cynthia) Sooley of Jasper, TX; daughter, Jerlyn DeAnn (Sonny) LeCompte of Danville; daughter Tricia LeAnn (Richard) Scarlett of Sharpsburg, GA; and son Dr George Randall (Jennifer) Sooley of Danville,. He was loving and faithful to his surviving brothers, Jim (Laura) Sooley of Hot Springs Village, AK and Mike (Julie) Sooley of Santa Rosa, CA. He was loving and faithful to his thirteen grandchildren: Kevin J Sooley, Christen Schulz, Phillip Warner, Cassandra Sooley, Martin Warner, Brent (Rose) Schulz, Brody Scarlett, Janse Sooley, Paige Ragan, Jeremy Sooley, Anna Sooley, Leah Ragan, and Mackenzie Sooley. He was blessed to recently welcome two great-grandchildren: Isla and Grayson Nelson.
Dr Sooley was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty and three brothers: Bill, Roy and Bob.
He graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in 1957 with his doctorate of chiropractic degree. He was privileged to serve tens of thousands of adoring patients spanning five decades. Prior to his professional career, he honorably served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He also served his community in various roles of leadership and community service and was an active part of the First Baptist Church in Danville since 1978. He enjoyed racing motorcycles, boating, travelling through all of North America and several foreign countries. He was blessed to continue joy riding his Harley into his late 80s.
Most importantly, he was faithful to God--especially after rededicating his life in 1949 because of his saving faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am Saturday, November 12, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 1211 N Vermilion Street Danville, Illinois 61832. Pastor Paul Rebert will officiate. Burial will be in the Danville National Cemetery on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10am. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00pm on Friday, November 11, 20022 also at First Baptist.
Memorials may be made in Dr Sooleys memory to the First Baptist Church.
