Dr, Edward A. Ortiz

Dr. Edward A. Ortiz, 55, passed away Friday, June 2, 2006 at his residence. He was born September 16, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Herbert Mendoza and Pearl Mary (Sanders) Ortiz. He married Barbara E. Dennis on August 19, 1979 in Delta Junction, Alaska. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Talitha Ortiz of Champaign and Tonah Ortiz of Danville; three brothers, Jeff Ortiz and Darrell (Chris) Ortiz of Orland Park, Illinois and Denis (Deb) Ortiz of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Darlyn (Tom) Graczyk of Round Lake Beach, Illinois. His parents and one infant brother preceded him in death. Dr. Ortiz was an emergency physician at St. Elizabeth Hospital from 1983 until he retired in 1987, due to injuries he received in an accident. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Loyola University in Chicago in 1972 and his Medical Degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1976. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1972-1977 and active duty from 1977-1980 in the Medical Corp holding the rank of Captain. Dr. Ortiz enjoyed building furniture, dog sleds and racing sleds in Alaska. He was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He truly loved his family.
