CHAMPAIGN- Douglas E. “Doug” Nix, 44, of Champaign passed away on Friday, December 20, 2013 at his home after many years of living with Multiple Sclerosis. Doug was born on March 27, 1969 in Holyoke, Massachusetts to Daniel and Susan Lynch Nix. He married Krysta Barker on August 9, 1997 in San Diego, CA. Doug is survived by his wife, Krysta; sons, Seth (10 yrs.) and Joel (7 yrs.); parents, Dan and Susan Nix of Centennial, CO.; Sister, Rebekah (Jeff) Caylor of Bridgewater, MA.; Parents in law, Michael and Linda Barker of Savoy, IL.; and Sister-in-law, Kara LaRosa of Fullerton, CA. He is also survived by two nephews and three nieces. Doug loved scuba diving, and spent most of his working life as a Customer Service Representative for Aqua Lung America. He had a great passion for repairing scuba and diving equipment. Doug excelled in the dive industry by earning certification as an instructor to other dive instructors. Underwater photography was one of his passions and he also served as a rescue and safety diver in San Diego, CA. An active member of the First Baptist Church in Savoy, Doug loved to tell others about his relationship with Jesus Christ. Doug was always a very funny, generous, and witty person. He was a man of integrity and lived his life to glorify his Savior. His positive attitude, thoughtfulness towards others, and the love he had for his family are the things we will remember most. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Centers Champaign-Urbana Chapel, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign. A Celebration of Life will be at 10:00am Monday, December 23, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Savoy, 1602 S. Prospect Ave., Savoy. Burial will follow at Prairieview Cemetery in Tolono.
