Douglas Donald Roark

Douglas Roark, often known as Pat, passed away at Carle Hospital in Urbana on the morning of Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was born in Hoopeston, IL on July 17, 1938 to Clarence and Catherine (Leuck) Roark. In the same city just 20 years later, Pat married Sarah Myers, and they lived together happily until her passing in 2022.

Pat is survived by his children, Catherine (Thomas) Kasallis of Hoopeston, IL, Douglas (Susan) Roark of West Lafayette, IN, Angela (Tim) Jessee of St. Joseph, IL, and John (Cody) Roark of Alvin, IL; grandchildren, Michelle, Sarah, Adam, April, Carmen, Sara, Tori, and Keegan; nine great-grandchildren; siblings Barb Roark, Nancy Scarlet, Roy Roark, and Keith Roark; and his beloved cats, Twinkie and Maggie.

Along with his wife and parents, Pat is preceded in death by his siblings David Roark, Delwyn "Mike" Roark, Richard Roark, and Eleanor Sienkowski.

Pat delivered mail in Hoopeston for 33 years. He was a member of St Anthony Catholic Church where he was an Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister, Usher and served on the Parish Council. As a member of the Illiana Antique Auto Club, he presided as President, Vice President, Show Chairman and Club Advisor. Pat also served as President and Vice President for the Hoopeston Hobby Club. He started at age 9 at St. Anthonys BSA Troop and remained active for 49 years, including Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Member and Troop Institutional Representative. For his many years of Scouting service, Pat received the Silver Beaver, St. George and District Award of Merit Awards.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and faith had a strong influence on his life. If you went to his house, you would probably find him in the garage tinkering or in the woods behind the house checking out the wildlife. When not at home, he would take the family either camping or on a tour with the Antique Auto Club. Pat and Sarah spent many evenings sitting together on the back patio enjoying the woodland scenery and will now be together again.

A service in honor of Pat will be held at St. Anthonys Church at 423 S 3rd St, Hoopeston, IL at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 1st. A visitation will be held one hour prior from 10:30-11:30 and a rosary service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1st for anyone who wishes to attend.
