Douglas Loy Collins

Douglas Loy Collins, 76, of Thomasboro, Illinois, passed away on November 22, 2025, at Carle Hospital.

Doug was born on November 27, 1948, the son of Richard and Juanita Collins. He grew up alongside his brother, Don (Cindy) Collins, with whom he shared years of family connection.

Doug married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis, at the Flatville Church on June 16th, 1968. Doug loved loving Phyllis, and he loved traveling with her. He could tell you from memory how to get through towns, which interstates to take in different states, and all sorts of routes right off the top of his head. Though he enjoyed asking Siri or Google a question now and then, he was a wealth of knowledge on his own. Doug could be a quiet man in a crowd, but if you got him one-on-one, you were sure to have a truly great conversation.

Together, Doug and Phyllis raised two sons, Deon (Bobby) Collins and Lance (Violy) Collins. He was also a loving grandfather to Seth and Bryce Collins, who brought him and Phyllis great joy through the years.

Doug was known for his good-hearted nature and his remarkable outlook on life. Doug’s outlook was simple and steady: life brings challenges, and you meet them by taking the next step forward and doing the best you can. This steady resilience shaped the way he moved through both ordinary days and difficult seasons.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, Richard and Juanita Collins, and his son, Lance Collins.

A service to honor Doug’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 11 am at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Lux Chapel, 1551 E. Grove Ave. Rantoul, IL 61866. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 am to 11 am at the funeral home. A lunch for the family will follow at the Linden in Rantoul.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnels to Towers in the name of Lance Collins.
