SHOW LOW, AZ- Dorothy Winifred Johnson, 83, of Show Low, Arizona, formerly of Georgetown, IL, passed away on June 23, 2006 in the RTC Hospice Unit in Lakeside, AZ, after a 3 year struggle with heart disease. She was born on February 17, 1923, in Georgetown, IL, the daughter of Dwight and Bess (Harris) Haworth. On February 21, 1948, she married George E. Johnson. He preceded her in death in 2001. Dorothy is survived by: her daughter, Karen Sue (Robert) Guthrie of Arizona; her four grandchildren, Kendrah Urias of Phoenix, AZ, Steffen Guthrie of Show Low, AZ, April Guthrie of Phoenix, AZ, and Dylan Guthrie of Show Low, AZ; her six great-grandchildren, Austin Urias, Alex Urias, Connor Pape, Meghan Pape, Alaney Hackmann, and Zachary Guthrie, all of Arizona; her sister; Marilyn (Lowell) Cummings of Danville; her two nieces; and three nephews. Her parents preceded her in death. Affectionately called Winnie, she was a homemaker for many years before returning to her nursing profession on the 0B/Delivery Dept at the former Lakeview Memorial Hospital in Danville. After leaving there in the 1960s, Winnie worked at the Danville VA before retiring in 1981. She spent the next 18 of the next 25 years as a volunteer for the Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital, during which she not only did the Calligraphy work on the birth certificates for the OB Dept, but also spent much of her time working in the gift shop at the hospital. Staying close to the hospital environment brought her great pleasure. Although she was considered a native of Phoenix, AZ, Winnie never stopped missing the Vermilion County area that she grew up in and held fond memories of. A celebration of Dorothys life is scheduled for 2:00pm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Sunsets Houghton -Leasure Funeral Home located at 200 E. West St. in Georgetown. Final resting place will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held between 4-7pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothys name to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital in St. Louis MO.
