Dorothy "Dot" Ann Ward

Dorothy (Dot) Ward was born at home on August 12, 1935, in Champaign County, Il. Dot was the eighth of nine children of Henry and Genevieve (Connor) Robeck, who proceeded her in death.

Dot attended a one room schoolhouse for 4 years in Kingman before graduating from Kingman High School in 1953. She was a dental assistant before marrying Steve Ward in 1957. They lived in Champaign and moved to Danville in 1964. Dot was a homemaker while raising their five children, Ron, Lori, Rebecca, Steve and Tim. She volunteered for many organizations including St. Elizabeth and Lakeview Hospital’s gifts shops, hospice, and books on tape, and Cub Scouts and Brownies with her children. She was the Garfield PTA President for 2 years. She liked to work in her flower garden, read, and do puzzles, and looked forward to getting the newspaper for the crossword, sudoku, and the anagram word scramble. She retired after 17 years from Mettam Safety Supply. The highlight of her day was when she got a call or visit from one of her grandchildren or great-grandchildren.

Dot is survived by sons, Tim (Tonya) Ward of Danville, and Stephen (Robin) Ward of Irving, Tx, Daughter-in-law Jeanne Ward of Danville, Son-in-law, Scott McBride of Champaign. Grandchildren, Aaron (Amy) Ward, Caitline Wolfe, Jennifer (Abe) Varghese, Emily (Evan) Baker, Kolt (Madi) Duggan, Kathy Ward (Tyler Roether – fiancé), Grace Ward, Samantha (Michael Giffen) Bailey, Danielle (Mark) Howard, Brian Ward, Jessica (Parker) Rossignol, Rebecca (Philipp) Kirchler, and Rachel (Jackson) Burkhouse, Dylan McBride, and 12 great-grandchildren, Avery Ward, Casey and Dyllan Bailey, McKayden Whitworth, Mason and Paislee Roundtree, Elliot Burkhouse, Jedidiah, Isaiah, Lydia, and Julia Varghese, Mila Duggan, and Cameron Baker, sister, Rita (Ed) Ianni of Va, and many nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by an infant son, children, Ron Ward, Lori Ward, and Rebecca McBride, 5 sisters, Catherine Ney, Jo Sansone, Lois Kusner, Ruth Piurowski, Ellen Piurowski and 2 brothers, Jack Robeck and Ray Robeck. 

 A memorial visitation will be held from 1:30PM – 3:00PM Friday, November 22, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home (3940 N. Vermilion St, Danville, IL 61834). Service to follow at 3:00PM, with Pastor Kiley Garrison officiating. Inurnment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, (818 Wendt Ave., Danville, IL 61832).
