Dorothy Nelson

Dorothy V. Nelson, 101, of Hoopeston, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland, IL. She was born on September 10, 1917, the daughter of Charles & Emma Sawyer. She was united in marriage to Arthur Nelson in 1970, he proceeded her in death. She will be dearly missed by son, Dennis (Jean) Hembrey; grandchildren, Jon (Laurie) Hembrey & Margot (Jason) Mantle; 5 great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ralph Sawyer, Harold Sawyer, Eleanor McFall, Ruth Behrens, Grace Warner, Altia Van Cleave & Alma Beck. Dorothy worked in the commissary at Chanute Air Force Base in her 20's. She was an artist at heart, oil painting and pottery work, even had her own kiln for a time. She worked at the Danville History Museum, judged Art Contests for the Hoopeston Sweet Corn Festival, Arthur owned the Lorraine Theater in Hoopeston for years. A visitation will be held for Dorothy from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home & Creation Center, 3940 N. Vermillion, Danville.
