Dorothy Mae McBride, 83, of Covington, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at SF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, Il. She was born to her loving parents William and Everal (Clark) Vyse on October 4,1938, in Covington, IN. Dorothy was united in marriage for 60 years to Harold Deke McBride who passed in August 2016.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Charlotte (G.A) Keeling, Sheila Cooke, Thad (Diane) McBride; grandchildren, Jessica Wallace, Deanna (Jason) Hammer, Dianna (Aaron) Stein, Kayla and Colton Cooke (Makena Bennington), Ryan (Mallory) McBride, Abby (DeSean) Prentice, Cystal Cutrell, and Melissa (Anthony) Breedlove; great grandchildren, Xavier Summers, Alanis (Gage) Gray, Austin, Ava, and Aiden Stein, Trace, Tyra, and Titus Hammer, Eleanor and Oliver McBride, Sady, Peyton, Brady, and McGuire Cutrell, Kelsey (Jason Whitthorne), Jalen, Jacy, and Tristen Breedlove; great-great grandchildren, Jax Gray, Aison and Arizona Whitthorne; sister in laws, Shirley Vyse and Joanne Vyse; many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 3 brothers, Donald, Duke and David Vyse; 2 sisters, Delores Hayden and Darene Jones.
Dorothy started twirling a baton at age 6, by high school she became the featured twirler in the Covington band. This began her legacy of coaching countless girls for 45 years in gymnastics, flag, baton twirling, and much more. After an accident, her husband Deke and son Thad built aa studio in their garage, so she could continue her passion. Several of her girls won various awards for their performances. Dorothys legacy lives on through what she taught her children, grandchildren, and even great children.
Once retiring, Dorothy spent most of her time being a farmers wife, crocheting, cooking, and support her grandchildren while teaching them about all her hobbies. She made numerous hats and costume for parades and Halloween. She was also known for her bob andy pies and never losing a game of slapjack.
A celebration of Dorothys life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington on Friday August 19th, 2022, at 11:00 am (EST) and a visitation from 6:00 8:00 pm (EST) on Thursday, August 18th, 2022. The address is 420 3rd st. Covington, IN 47932. She will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington. Memorial donations may be made in her honor to the American Cancer Association.
