Cayuga, Ind. -- Dorothy L. Porter, 93, of Cayuga, Indiana passed away at 12:50 p.m. EDT Monday, August 29, 2011 at The Waters of Clinton in Clinton, Indiana. She was born June 21, 1918 in North Bend, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Harrison and Ruth Robbins Grubbs. She married James W. Porter September 10, 1936 in Rockville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Diane (James) Wittenauer of Ft. Myers, Florida and Terre Haute, Indiana; her son, Phil (Linda) Porter of Terre Haute, Indiana; six grandchildren; Pam Wittenauer, Ft. Myers, Florida; Tim (Mary Beth) Wittenauer of Richmond, Virginia; Kent (Brenda) Wittenauer of Lewisville, Texas ; Keith (Charity) Porter of Terre Haute, Indiana; Brian (Tabatha) Porter of St. Petersburg, Florida and Darin (Laura) Porter of Lafayette, Indiana; five great grandchildren; Bailey and Chloe Wittenauer of Lewisville, Texas; Kyle Wittenauer of Richmond, Virginia; Marshall and Autumn Taylor of Terre Haute, Indiana; Tyler and Bekah Dearing of Lafayette, Indiana; one sister, Helen Jordan of Cayuga, Indiana; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Moore and Mildred Conner, and one brother, Robert Grubbs. Dorothy was first employed at the former Szilagyi Store in Cayuga for 4 years, then worked 10 years for the former Pawley Lumber Co. in Cayuga. She retired as manager from the First Citizens State Bank in Cayuga where she had worked for 20 years. She was a 1936 graduate of Cayuga High School, a member of the Cayuga Christian Church, a charter member of the Eta Chi Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, National Federation of Women's Club, Busy Bee Bunco Club. She was a former member of the Cayuga Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed knitting, crafts, sewing, reading, doll making and working crossword puzzles. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family. Funeral services: 1 p.m. EDT Friday, September 2, 2011 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Andy Spencer; Burial: Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Indiana; Visitation: one hour prior to services on Friday, September 2, 2011 at the funeral home.
