Dorothy Jean Hittinger, 79, of Danville, IL, took Gods hand on Sunday, July 4, 2010 after an extended illness from cancer. She was born in Chicago, IL on October 5, 1930. Dorothy graduated from South Shore High School. She was married to Earl J. Hittinger on November 18, 1961 in Chicago, IL. Dorothys employment career included Standard Oil of Indiana; Amoco Chemicals Corporation (Division of Standard Oil); and Danville School District #118. She was a secretary and administrative secretary to various organizational executives. Her personal interests were centered on family as exemplified by extensive involvement in school PTA, Co-Chair of Band Ways and Means Committee, Co-Chair of Liberty School Evaluation Committee, and while in Chicago, she was President of Sunday Nighters Youth Group of the Bryn Mawr Community Church. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Earl J. Hittinger of Danville; two sons: Robert Daniel (Sherie) Hittinger of Washington Township, IL, and William Russell (Colette) Hittinger of Garden City, NY; three grandchildren: Robert Austin (Ashley D.) Hittinger of Odenton, MD; Ashley Rae Hittinger of Fort Wayne, IN; and William Christopher Hittinger of Garden City, NY; three great-grandchildren: Cole McDaniel, Kaleab, and Roslynn of Odenton, MD; two brothers: Terry (Lorie) Wilson of Worth, IL and Ed (Dorothy) Wilson of Huntley, IL; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. Visitations will be held 6 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 and 9 AM to 11 AM on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home by Father Greg Nelson. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
