Dorothy Jean Garrett

Dorothy Jean Garrett, 73, of Champaign, passed away at Carle Foundation Hospital on March 19, 2023. Dot was born August 19, 1949, in Urbana to Billy J. Cook and Phyllis P. (Cozad) Cook. Dot married Robert E. "Woody" Garrett, Sr. on October 19, 1969. They later divorced.

Surviving are a son, Robert E. "Robbie" Garrett, Jr. and a daughter, Jennifer A. Miles both of Champaign; grandchildren, Zachuary Meyers, Shyanna Garrett, Jevonna Spinks, and Dondr Anderson; great grandchildren, Zylen Garrett, Mercedes Junious, Derrick Junious III, Jeremiah Junious, Lexus Junious, Julian Spinks, Imani Lotts; sisters, Sandra K Schmit of Danville, Phyllis Ann Davis of Champaign and brother, Eddie L. Cook, Sr. of Thomasboro.

Dot resided with her soulmate and the love of her life, Max D. Hewerdine until his death on March 2, 2015. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law, Wilhelm Schmit and Frank Davis. She also leaves behind her fur babies, Holly Noel and Lexie Nicole.

Dorothy graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1967 and was previously employed by Purity Sunbeam Bakery and Bergners for many years. She was a huge fan of NASCARs Dale Ernhardt Jr. and tended a gnome garden in her backyard, adding to it yearly.

Dorothy treasured her time spent with great grandson Julian in all his sports activities and her great granddaughter Imanis gymnastics and sports activities. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her best friends and classmates Kathy (McConkey) Phelps and Carol (Brown) Morenz as well as her loving family and friends.

Dorothy has been cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
