Dorothy J. Schaffer 89, of Westville passed away at 7:08am, Saturday, December 10, 2011, at her home. She was born on October 28, 1922, in Westville, IL, the daughter of Albert and Mary {Oldani} Hacquet and she was lovingly raised by her step-father, George Vacketta. She was united in marriage to Raymond Schaffer on June 3, 1944, in Westville, IL, until his passing on January 20, 2000. She will be missed by: her sisters, Mayme Smith of Merritt Island, FL, and Anna Dugas Bruckman of Fort Myers, FL; her nephews, Bill (Joyce) Dugas of Westville and Ore Vacketta Jr. of Boston, MA; her nieces, Lani (Charlie) McKnight of Titusville, FL, Sherry (Tom) Gaulke of Albany, OR, Bea Davis of Fort Myers, FL, & Nina Pinzarone of San Francisco, CA; and her many great nieces & great nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her brother, Ore Vacketta Sr.; her niece, Diana Thorlton; and her nephew, George Dugas. Dorothy graduated from Westville High School and attended Utter-Back Brown Business College. She worked for First National Bank of Danville and retired as Assistant Vice President in 1986 after 40 years of dedicated service. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary's Church, as well as, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, Westville American Legion Auxiliary, and a former member of the Danville Executive Club. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and dancing. She took her first commercial air flight at the age of 86 years old during Christmas. Dorothy's family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to her four exemplary and most loving caregivers: Marsha Baker, Betty Hixon, Valerie Lewis, & Carolyn Spelman. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, December 17, 2011, at St. Mary's Church, 231 N. State St, Westville, with Father Sauppe officiating. Visitation will be 10:00am - 11:00am, Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville. She will be laid to rest in Springhill Cemetery, Danville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Dorothy's name to donor's choice of charity.
