Rossville, IL " Dorothy passed from this life on February 17, 2009. She was born January 1, 1923 to the late James B. and Matilda Florence (Kirk) Cook in State Line, Indiana. She graduated from Ash Corner Grade School and Bismarck High School. She wed Theadore Mertz, now of Vallejo, California, in January 1942. She is preceded in death by her beloved husbands Wilbur Edward Mahorney and Robert French. She is survived by her four children: Allen (Janey) Mertz, James (Charlotte) Mertz, Michael (JoAnne) Mahorney, and Marilyn Cox; fourteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings: Helen (Raymond) Putnam, Kenneth, Wilbur, and Carroll (May) Cook, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by the following siblings: Frank, James Elwood, Deloris and Tillie Cook. She was a life member of the Rossville United Methodist Church, the Rossville Women of Today, the Rossville American Legion Womens Auxiliary, the VFW Post 728 (Past Presidents Club & the 7th District Past President). She volunteered at the Danville VA Hospital, was the past Treasurer of the UMC Memorial Fund, and past Secretary of the Vermilion Veterans Council. She had many varied interests in life. She enjoyed spending time with her family immensely, especially playing Scrabble at family gatherings. She loved having breakfast every morning with the girls at Meritas Family Restaurant in Rossville. She also enjoyed cross-stitch and playing cards and bingo. A Celebration of the Life of Dorothy French will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Charlie Graul officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park.
