Dorothy Elizabeth Pipkin, 92 of Danville, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 5:45 AM at Presence USMC in Danville. She was born February 12, 1924, the daughter of Kent O. and Hazel {Chronic} Whitmer. Dorothy married Dan Pipkin on October 2, 1944 in Birmingham, AL. He preceded her in death. Dorothy is survived by her son, Brad (Janet {Hebermehl}) of Danville; daughter, Cynthia Pipkin-Doyle of Urbana; grandchildren, Danna (Randall) {Doyle} Wright; and brother, Edwin L. Whitmer. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law, Carter Doyle. Dorothy and her husband built their family business together. She served as their comptroller and general manager at Dan Pipkin Advertising Agency, Inc. She was a member of the Danville Country Club, Danville Women's Club, and Central Christian Church. Dorothy was also an avid golfer and loved to play Bridge. She voyaged around the world and enjoyed traveling. Dorothy loved to read and tell stories, especially about her family whom she loved very much. Dorothy was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her loving family. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion, Danville. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park, Danville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials in Dorothy's name can be made to the Central Christian Church Foundation.
