Westville Dorothy E. (Slazas) Hyland passed away on Thursday December 24, 2020 at her home in Westville.
Dorothy was born in Westville, IL the daughter of Anton "Tony" and Mary (Sneyd) Slazas on July 2, 1927. She married Harold "Swede" Hyland on November 8, 1968.
Dorothy is survived by four step-children, Diana Doan of Danville, IL, Denise (Butch) Schroeder of Danville, IL, Debra (Scott) Fulmer of Williamsport, IN, and Todd Hyland of Danville, IL, nine step-grandchildren, Michelle Doan of Reno, NV, Marsha Musson of Danville, IL, Marianne Doan of Danville, IL, Jack Doan of Danville, IL, Jamie (Derek) Van Meenen of St Joseph, IL, Dustin (Bethany) Kegeris of Orlando, FL, Jeremy (Melissa) Gaskill of Williamsport, IN, Brittany (Kevin) Crowder of Attica, IN, and Brock (Hyland) Baker of Danville, IL. Also surviving are one niece, Sheri Toth of Westville, IL, one nephew, John Slazas of Danville and several step great-grandchildren and cousins.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold, one brother, Richard Slazas and one step son, Terry Hyland.
Dorothy worked at the United States Treasury in Danville before working at the VA Hospital for three medical doctors for over 38 years. She and her husband did bookkeeping and tax preparation in their home for over 50 years as Hyland Tax Service, loving all their clients like family. A special friend, Connie Norbut, worked by their side for many years.
Dorothy loved to travel and read but especially loved her dog Daisy, who never left her side. She loved her family with her big heart and will be missed by those who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff at OSF Hospital in Urbana for taking good care of her the past few months and her PCP, Cheryl Sullivan at OSF in Danville, IL. The family would also like to thank her special friends, Helen and Butch Hansbrough, who went up and above to help care for her, walking her dog, visiting her everyday, bringing her meals, and helping with appointment, and special friend, Connie Norbut, who never missed a beat calling Dorothy everyday to talk to her.
A Private Family Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at CrossRoads Christian Church in Danville, Illinois, 3613 N. Vermilion Street Danville, Illinois 61832. Miles Clark will officiate. A Public Graveside Committal Service will be held at 12:00 Noon at Sunset Memorial Park following services at the church. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 6183 is assisting the family with arrangements.
It is kindly requested that those in attendance of the visitation or service wear a mask and practice social distancing.
