Dorothy "Dottie" M. (Navota) McLaughlin, 76, of Danville, IL passed away at her home with her family by her side on October 17, 2023.
Dottie was born on April 16, 1947, in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Anton "Gene" and Dorothy (Hage) Navota. Dottie was preceded in death by: Gene and Dorothy Navota (parents), John and Mary Navota (grandparents), and August and Mary D. Hage (grandparents).
Survivors include her husband, Donald McLaughlin of Danville, IL, two sons, Scott (Abi) McLaughlin of Indianapolis, IN, and Ryan (Veronica) McLaughlin of West Lafayette, IN, as well as seven grandchildren, who all adored her.
Dottie graduated with a Bachelors in English from Northern Illinois University, where she also met her loving husband. Don and Dottie were happily married on August 23, 1969, in Aurora, IL. Dotties passion for education began at an early age. Her parents instilled a strong work ethic and competitive spirit, in addition to emphasizing the importance of pursuing higher education. Upon graduation, she taught high school English, until becoming a full-time "Mom." Had Dottie used her infamous "red pen" to proofread her obituary, there would be no debate on subject verb agreement or tense consistency.
After the boys graduated college, Dottie worked as a Teachers Assistant, and later became the Outreach Coordinator for the Hospital Foundations "I Sing the Body Electric" program. Dottie was well known amongst family, friends, and complete strangers as a selfless, sweet, and caring individual. She was passionate about helping children and cared deeply for the wonderful kids she met throughout the area. "Are you Dotties son?" and "Your Mom is so nice!" will be forever engraved in both of her sons memories, from meeting countless individuals who knew Dottie.
Most important to Dottie was her family, especially her grandchildren. Dottie enjoyed every moment playing and engaging with her grandchildren over the years. Her wonderful sense of humor along with her lighthearted and caring ways will forever be remembered. Dotties incredible inventory of Play-Doh and sparkles at Grandma and Grandpas house will provide fun for years to come.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Friday, October 27th at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. Raymie Gordon will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking individuals to send a single rose to a loved one to show love and support. Don has been buying roses for Dottie every week since her initial diagnosis of breast cancer in 1999. Each week, the flowers were meant to show her how much the family cares for her, often accompanied by a personalized card of encouragement and love from "The Rose Fairy."
