Danville - Dorothy E. Dickelman, 99, of Danville, passed away on March 4, 2014. She was born August 11, 1914 in Danville, IL the daughter of Edward and Mayme Buy Atwood. She married William “Bill” Dickelman on June 5, 1937 in Danville; who preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, John E. (wife, Babs) Dickelman of Cement City, MI; her daughter, Carol A. (husband, Gary) Swank; her grandchildren, Michele (husband, Sel) Arocho of Gardenia, CA, Tina (husband, Dave) Szarenski of Saginaw, MI, and Andrea (Scott) Ligler of Noblesville, IN; her great-grandchildren, Hayden and Kaitlyn Szarenski; Rilee and Joshua Ligler. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother Earl Atwood. Dorothy attended Eastern Illinois University and later graduated from Indiana State. She was an elementary school teacher for 27 years in District #118; she taught third grade at Elmwood School. She belonged to The Business Professional Womens Club, The Danville Garden Club, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Dorothy was a life time member of Central Christian Church, where she took part in the Co-Wed Class. She was a Decon, a member of the Christian Womens Fellowship, and she also taught Sunday school classes. Dorothy volunteered at Provena United Samaritans gift shop and she served Meals on Wheels to people in need. She also enjoyed her down time where she would play bridge, sew, knit and work in her garden. Above all else, Dorothy loved her family and she will be sorely missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have known her. Special thanks to Hawthorne Inn of Danville for all of their care and support. A sincere thank you to the four ladies from Hospice. A private family service will be held at Central Christian Church at 10:30am on Friday March 7, 2014. Memorial donations may be made in Dorothys name to The Central Christian Church Foundation.
