Dorothy D Ridens

Dorothy D. Ridens, 98, of Westville, died peacefully in her sleep at 5:35pm, Sunday, August 25, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family. Born on January 16, 1915, she was the daughter of the late William and Julia (Moll) Stettler. She married William T. Ridens on July 28, 1934, in Mt. Vernon, IN. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2010, after 75 years of marriage. She is survived by: her children, Mary Lawson of Williamsport, Wilma Filebark of Westville, Janet (John) Becker of Lafayette, IN, Linda Johnson of Westville, Michael (Carol) Ridens of Covington, IN, Karen (Steven) Lyons of Normal, IL; and her brother, Norman (Delores) Stettler of Yucaipa, CA. Also surviving are: ten grandchildren, Eric (Michelle) Filebark of Collinsville, IL, Lisa & Laura Becker of Indianapolis, IN, Christy Johnson (Chris Witting) of Columbia, MO, Stephanie (Brendan) Woolley of Charlotte, NC, Elizabeth (Ben) Byrnes of Cumberland Gap, TN, Emily Ridens of Covington, IN, William Lyons of Chicago, IL, Nik (Kate) Lyons of LeRoy, IL, & Charles (Elisha) Lyons of Evansville, IN; and four great grandchildren, Alex & Mathew Lyons of Evansville, IN and Abbie & Austin Lyons of LeRoy, IL. Dorothy and her family moved to Westville in the 1950s. She has been a member of St. Marys Parish for over 60 years, serving as cook for the school when it was in operation. Her hobbies included quilting and gardening and she was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. She was a remarkable cook, devoted to her family and a devout Catholic who was never without a rosary in her hand. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Westville with Fr. Timothy Sauppe officiating. Visitation will be 9:30am to 11:00am, Wednesday, at the Church with Rosary to be held at 9:00am. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Presence Hospice, especially Karen Davison, for their love, support and tender care that they gave Mom during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. Marys Catholic Church or to National Parkinsons Foundation or to Alzheimers Research.
