Dorothy B. (Tucker)Brown/Bouton, "Cookie" received her wings and went to walk with Jesus on July 18, 2020 in Traverse City, Michigan. Dorothy was 94 years old and was a lifelong Georgetown, Illinois native.
Dorothy was born January 19, 1926 to Jesse A and Daisy P Smith Tucker of Georgetown, Illinois. Dorothy attended Georgetown Schools. At the age of 14, Dorothy was stricken with polio, Dorothy had determination and perseverance like no other. When they told her, she would not walk without a brace, she proved them wrong, the illness did not define her life.
On September 22, 1951, Dorothy married Donald L. Brown. They enjoyed a happy marriage of thirty-seven years before his passing in January 1989. Out of the marriage they had two daughters, Jodi (Gary) Poynter and Beth McClyde.
Dorothy retired from Chuckles Candy Factory. Her daughters, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren looked forward to the sweet treats she brought home, especially at Easter. Dorothy was a member of the Georgetown Church of the Nazarene. She loved her church and lived her faith through Christian service, especially with children, acting as teacher and co-teacher for the Toddler class at the church for fifty years. Dorothy was an avid baker and well known for her talent of making birthday cakes, pies, and homemade chicken and noodles. Dorothy was affectionally given the nickname "Cookie" by her nephew Jim. Dorothy loved to read. Her home was a gathering place for family and friends. One of her grandchildrens favorite stories is that their Grammy took drivers training at age 62 with the students at Georgetown High School and drove for 20 years. Dorothy loved to serve others and cared for her family and friends. Her favorite scripture was Matthew 23:37. Her favorite song was "Tell Me The Story of Jesus."
On August 26, 1995, Dorothy married Harold S. Bouton and they enjoyed nine years together before his passing in 2004.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Daisy (Smith) Tucker, her siblings, Raymond Tucker, Beulah Nale, Goldie Stimac, Maxine Yates, Jessie Parker, LeVee Ehlenfeld, Kenneth Tucker, her son in law, Alexander McClyde, and stepson, Robert Bouton.
Dorothy is survived by her twin Sister, Doris Dalida and her Brother, Robert Tucker. Her children Jodi (Gary) Poynter, Traverse City, MI, and Beth McClyde, Lafayette, IN, Stepson Allan (Lynnette) Bouton, Georgetown, Illinois and Stepdaughter in law, Paula Bouton, Chrisman, IL. Grandchildren Doug (Katie) Poynter, Kari Reen, Eric McClyde and Aaron McClyde. Great-Grandchildren Isabella Anderson, Aubrey Reen, Natalie Poynter, Luke Poynter, DeAndre Frazier-McClyde, Michael Frazier, Lillian McClyde, Aubrey Neither and Stephon Neither. Step grandchildren Bobette (Nathan), Brent (Brooke), David (Dawna), Jared (Sarah Jo), Nathan (Sarah Lauren) Step great grandchildren (Lillian, Bailey Rae, Pierre, Ella Rhea, and Wesley). Dorothy is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Dorothys life will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846 with Pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery. Memorials can go to Sun Valley Indian School or Hospice of Michigan. The family would like to thank all the caregivers who have cared for Dorothy during this long journey with Dementia/Alzheimers.
