Indianola " Dorothy Daisy Almy, age 87, of Indianola, Illinois, was reunited with her husband of 68 years on January 28, 2006. She was born on January 19, 1919, in Newell, Ohio, the daughter of Anna and Joseph Foyer. The family followed the coalmining jobs to Illinois when she was a teenager. She met her future husband Gordon while attending Georgetown High School. On September 5, 1937, she married Gordon Baird Almy. They made their home and raised their family on a farm east of Indianola. Dorothy and Gordon were members of the Indianola Baptist Church and taught the high school Sunday school class for several years. Later, they became members of the Indianola Methodist Church where she served as board member, Sunday school and Bible school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, member of the United Methodist Women, and choir director. Dorothy was quite active in the community through membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, Home Bureau, Lionesses, and volunteering at Lake View Memorial Hospital. She was also active in 4-H on the local and county level. Dorothy enjoyed hobbies and crafts, including sewing, knitting, quilting, and crocheting. Her greatest joy was her family, especially the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Gordon Jr. and Donald; and four sisters and six brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Winnifred (Ken) Beers of Indianola, and Dorothy Zimmer of Plano, Illinois; a son David (Connie) of Indianola; and a foster daughter, Mary Copeland of Rantoul. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, including Christine (Don) Foster of Newark, Illinois; Cheryl Taylor of Damascus, Maryland; Kevin (Chandra) Taylor of Indianola; Scott Zimmer of Riverside, Illinois; Traci (Mike) Ehrenhofer of Round Lake Heights, Illinois; Heather (Aaron) Venn of Algonquin, Illinois; Heidi (Mike) Goetting of Buffalo Grove, Illinois; and Hope Almy of Morehead City, NC; 12 great grandchildren, Stephanie and Don (Season) Foster; Christopher McFadden and Megan Alburger; Gabriel, Jonathon, and Kimberly Taylor; Justin, Nathan, and Ethan Ehrenhofer; Jason and Tyler Goetting; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Emma and Zachary Foster.
