Dorothea May Perry

Dorothea May (Woods) Perry, 95, went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2022, in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on June 3, 1926, in Boston, MA. At the age of 20 she moved to Danville, IL where she met her husband of 63 years, Loyd W. Perry. In 2013 they relocated to Fort Wayne to be closer to their daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Loyd preceded her in death in 2014. Dorothea had an entrepreneurial spirit and was successful in all that she ventured due to her passion and determination. Her career began in Cost Accounting at General Motors before stepping into the world of sales and marketing. She worked in various independent sales, sold ads for Yellow Pages, and was one of the first car saleswomen in the Danville area. To further add to her incredible business resume she moved on to attain her real estate broker license in both Illinois and Indiana and opened her very own office. Through her life she had many talents and interests including dancing, singing (Sweet Adelines and area bands), theatrical performances with Red Mask Theater, public speaking with Toastmasters International, playing bridge, visiting their Florida Timeshares, and traveling the world with her husband. Her greatest passion was loving and serving others and spending time with her family, including her church families. While in Danville, she was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, bible studies and serving however needed. After moving to Fort Wayne, she was a member of The Chapel and later joined New Hope Baptist Church. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughter, Diane Martin; son-in-law, Doug Martin; grandson, Daniel Martin (Ashley); granddaughter, Melissa DeBolt (Daniel), and great grandchildren, Judah and Asher DeBolt of Fort Wayne, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends all over the world. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm (CST) at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. A funeral service celebrating her life will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home on Saturday. She will be placed to rest next to Loyd at Sunset Memorial Park following services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the Charis House for Women & Children; PO Box 11116 Fort Wayne, IN 46855 or online at https://app.etapestry.com/hosted/FortWayneRescueMinistries/OnlineDonation.html.
