Danville- Dorothea Broderick, 90, of Danville passed away at 6:45 AM on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville. She was born on February 3rd, 1921 in Osceola, Iowa to Frank and Mary Behl Wilhelm of Tuscola, Illinois. They are deceased. She was married to Donald J Broderick of Danville, IL, a retired principal of District 118 on September 2, 1946 in Danville. He passed away September 7th, 2001. Dorothea is survived by one son, Raymond (Linda) Broderick, of Johnsburg, IL of which they lived from 1971 through 2005 and currently live in Danville, IL. Ray was principal of Elk Grove High School and Schlarman High School. Three grandchildren, Patrick and Aaron of McHenry, and Alissa (Jay) Sandefer of Oakwood, IL; Four great grand children, Emily, Hannah, and Jacob of Oakwood, IL and Kiara Broderick of Lake Geneva, WI; Two brothers Frank Earl (Verina) Wilhelm of Tuscola, IL & Ben W. Wilhelm of Decatur, IL. She also leaves 9 nieces and nephews. Dorothea graduated from Tuscola High School and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing of Danville with additional education at Purdue University. She has an RN degree in nursing. After high school she was a legal secretary for a judge and realtor in Tuscola. She volunteered for 7 years at St. Patricks grade school as school nurse. She was a former member of Danville Garden Club and St. Elizabeth Auxiliary. She is an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Elizabeth Nurses Alumni. She did private duty nursing at Lakeview Hospital in Danville and private and staff nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. Dorothea was an active member of the Volunteers of United Samaritans Hospital in Danville, IL and Balloon Classic, Festival of Trees, and Franciscan Lay Order. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spent a lot of time with them. She loved people, playing cards, crafts, traveling and baking for people. She loved life. She leaves many special and dear friends in Danville as well as in Bradenton, Florida. She will be deeply missed by her family. A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday, April 4, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville. Father Ted Pracz will officiate. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be from 2-5 PM on Sunday, April 3, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
