Doris Wellman-Balchuk

Doris Anna Wellman-Balchuk, 94, of Westville, passed away on Wednesday February 24, 2021 at Passavant Memorial Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL. Doris was born in Westville on August 1, 1926 the daughter of Lonnie and Mabel (Hensley) Brooks. Doris was married to Charles Ed Wellman in 1944 until his passing in 1983. In 1999, she married Anthony Tony Balchuk who preceded her in death. Doris leaves behind her four children, Thomas Wellman of Vancouver, Washington, Charles "Chuck" (Terry) Wellman of Freeport, Illinois, Raymond "Ray" (Debbie) Wellman of Cocoa Beach, Florida and Suzanne (Luke) Meyer of Murrayville, Illinois, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands and many friends. Doris graduated from Westville High School in 1943. She loved her family and was a loving caregiver to her husbands and many others during her life. She belonged to many organizations such as the Eastern Star, Westville Womens Club, and various Euchre Clubs. She was a member of the Illinois American Mothers Association for 40 years where she was named Mother of the Year in 1979 and Merit Mother in 2017. She volunteered wherever she could with organizations like Meals on Wheels and helped the elderly go to appointments as well as was an election judge. She was a member Trinity United Church of Christ where she became the first female Church moderator. After her husband, Ed, passed, Doris attended DACC and graduated with her Licensed Practical Nurse and went on to work at VA Illiana Hospital in Danville for 6 years. Doris loved to travel and enjoyed going on bus trips with her friends. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm, Friday March 5, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Westville, Illinois, 414 S State St. Westville, Illinois 61883. Pastor David Robberts-Mosser will officiate. Visitation will be held 11:00am to 1:00pm on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Sandusky Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given in her name to Trinity United Church of Christ, 311 Moses Ave, Westville, IL 61883.
