Doris Jean Powell

Romans 14:8 - If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die we live for the Lord.

Doris "Jean" Powell, 74, of Georgetown, received the honor of passing into paradise on November 7, 2021, at home. Those who knew her well may have called her "Jeannie", but no one called her Doris, or you would have earned yourself a stern look or a punch in the arm. She would say, "That was my mothers name". She was the beloved wife of Michael J. Powell, who will cherish his lifetime of loving memories with her. She leaves behind her children, Gina Brady, Douglas (Marlene) Powell, and Kimberly Tucker. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Shawnee, Zackary, and Isabella Brady; Tyler (Paige) McComas, Destiny, T. Earl Phillips, and Hailee (Roman) Wagner; Owen, Levi, Josie Tucker, and Aubrey Sanders. Finally, her great grandchildren, Isaiah Russell, Ryder & Tripp McComas, and Valerie Irby. Jean was born on April 15, 1947, to Doris and James Sam Hubbard. Jean grew up in Olivet, Illinois. She is survived by her sister, Audrey (James) Griffis, and her brother, David (Vicki) Hubbard. Jean met the love of her life, Michael, in high school, and they later married on March 19, 1966. Soon after came their first born, Gina (their strong-willed difficult one), Douglas (the apple of her eye and sunshine), and lastly, Kimberly ("the flu, Im not pregnant seven years later.) She loved spending time with her friends, babysitting, and square dancing. She was a Sunday School teacher and volunteered in any church activity that she was capable of. She loved to spend time with her church family. Over the years she spent time with her family by going camping and trips to Holiday World. She loved playing the Atari, Asteroids, and if you beat her, you had better not be sitting on her left-hand side. She loved sunbathing, being in the pool, reading, spending time with her grandchildren, and playing the Nutty card game. She loved her husband (unless he was being an idiot) and their love story included ups and downs, hard work and determination, a love of their family, and a strong grounding in the Lord. She was a wife, mother, sister, and friend, but most importantly the strongest woman we ever knew. Jean pushed through many obstacles in life and through it all she remained the most important and influential person in our lives. We learned about life, love, and strength from her. While her Earthly presence is no more, her memories will continue to live on through her family and all who knew her. A celebration of Jeans life will be held at 3:00pm, Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Olivet Church of the Nazarene, 5054 Olivet Road, Georgetown, IL 61846 with Pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation will be held 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Saturday prior to her service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her name to Breast Cancer Awareness Fund.
