Doris J. Heiser, 83, of Georgetown, passed away at 7:25pm, Friday, January 9, 2015, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL. She was born on May 27, 1931, in Westville, IL. She was the daughter of Felix and Helen Prunkard Polakes. She graduated from Westville High School in 1949 and Lakeview School of Nursing in 1952. She was married to Rod E. Heiser and together had four children. Survivors include: her sister, Elnora McCarthy of Westville; her children, Nancy (Milton) Dalenberg of Indianola, IL, Carol (Michael) Ridens of Covington, IN, Bob (Barbie) Heiser of Kewaskum, WI, & Paula Brazas (Chad Sprague) of Williamsport, IN; eight grandchildren, Tim Dalenberg (Megan Young), Will Dalenberg (Karlee Thomen), Beth (Ben) Ridens-Byrnes, Emily Ridens (Lee Marin), Michael (Allie) Heiser, Jess (Jerry) Heiser-Erjavec, Johnny Brazas, & Luke Brazas (Kenzie Cooper); three great grandchildren, Tessa & Genevieve Heiser, and Jerry Erjavec, Jr.; and several nieces & nephews. Doris was preceded in death by: her parents; sisters, Cleada Dupoux & Lela Chiccino; and her husband, Rod E. Heiser. Doris was a Register Nurse who was extremely dedicated to her profession for over 50 years. She worked at Burnham City Hospital in Champaign, Lakeview Hospital & Medical Center in Danville, and served as Director of Nursing in several nursing homes, including Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville. Doris and her “nursing sisters” have continued to meet for monthly lunches throughout the years; she was extremely proud to have maintained such strong friendships with her Lakeview School of Nursing fellow graduates. Doris loved spending time with her family; enjoyed her loyal & friendly neighborhood, feeding the birds, her pets, reading, volunteering at Forest Glen, and visiting with friends and family on Facebook. As per her request, Doris will be cremated. A Memorial visitation will be held 10:00am - 2:00pm, Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown. A brief Memorial Service will be held at 1:45pm. A private family burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Indianola. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Doris name to Forest Glen Nature Preserve or the Vermilion County Animal Shelter.
