Doris Erickson, 84, of Danville passed away on March 24, 2011 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. Doris was born on March 19, 1927 in Ocheltree, Kansas, daughter of Wilber R. and Ruth M. Zehring. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, three nephews, a niece, and a very special friend, Jerry Taylor. Doris grew up on a farm in Kansas and attended Olathe High School, graduating in 1944. She was very active in high school music activities. She worked for Hyster Boot Factory in Olathe where they made boots for many movie stars, one of which was Buddy Rogers, whose hometown was Olathe. In 1945, she enrolled in Kansas City Secretarial School graduating in 1947, during this time she met her future husband, Carl Gosta Erickson, who was from Danville attending watch making school in Kansas City. They were married in Olathe, Kansas on May 22, 1948 and moved to Danville. Doris worked as a legal secretary for John P. Meyer for 45 years. Also worked for the Illinois Commerce Commission Police in Champaign, and Vermilion County Health Department. She is survived by her son, Carl Edwin, her daughter-in-law, Brenda and her very special granddaughter Jenna; several nieces and nephews, a special great niece Kiera Grotrian, and many friends. Doris loved music of all types, especially gospel, dancing, reading, playing cards, traveling, working crossword puzzles daily, going to the boat, and spending time with her family and her many friends. She was a member of St. James Methodist Church, a charter member of the Legal Secretaries of Vermilion County, Business Women of Vermilion County, and Women of the Moose. A Celebration of Doriss Life will be held at 1:30 pm, Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
