Eugene, Ind. - Doris Elizabeth (Knauer) Farthing, 91 of Eugene, Indiana passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Williamsport Nursing and Rehab in Williamsport, Indiana where she had resided since March 2020.
She was born March 7, 1929 in Cayuga, Indiana to George Washington Knauer Jr. and Blanche Irene (Murdock) Knauer.
She married James Ottry Farthing February 14, 1953 in Perrysville, Indiana and he passed away November 23, 1987.
Doris was a 1947 graduate of Cayuga High School and worked for Szilagy's Grocery in Cayuga, Indiana from 1947 until she married and became a homemaker. She was an avid reader, excellent seamstress, enjoyed crafts and quilting and family history. She also enjoyed collecting bells and angels.
Past memberships include the General Federation of Women's Clubs, Social Study Club of Cayuga, Eugene Harvest Days, Pioneer Days and the Cayuga High School Reunion Committee.
She is survived by her son: Jon (Donna) Farthing of Cayuga, Indiana; daughter: Diane (David) Siddens of Eugene, Indiana; granddaughters: Krista Farthing, Katie (Maris) Clark; grandson: Tyler Siddens; great-granddaughters: Gemma and Felicity; brother: Dale (Sue) Knauer of Cayuga and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Fred T. (Julia) Knauer, and sister Freda (Harold) Kyllo.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Silver Island Cemetery near Lodi, Indiana. The family asks that contributions be made to an organization of the donor's choice. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is honored to be caring for the family.
