Danville- Doris Chapman, 80, of Danville passed away at 1:30 PM on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at her home. She was born May 20, 1931 in Streator, IL, the daughter of James W. Adamson and Myra Griffin. She first married Austin Buchanan in June of 1953. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1973. She later married Thomas Wright Chapman on September 18, 1977. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1996. She is survived by her son, Brett Buchanan of Danville and grandchildren Jill and Samantha; her daughter Kimberly (James) Pacilio of Mahwah, NJ and grandchildren Sunny, Mikayla, and Jamie; her daughter Christine (Paul) Vishnesky of Coppell, TX and grandchildren Tara and Julia; a step-son, Thomas Noble Chapman; step-daughter Anne (Phillip) Bell; and a step-brother, Danny (Susie) Vargochik. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents. Doris was a 1953 graduate of the University of Illinois where she earned her bachelor's degree. While at the U of I, she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Women's Fraternity and served as president her senior year. In addition to her educational achievements, Doris gave her time as a member of the Salvation Army and was president of Junior Auxiliary and Senior Auxiliary at Lakeview Hospital. She was also active as the President of Edison School PTA, a member of Well Baby Clinic, the PEO, and the Symphony Guild. Doris was a wonderful cook and enjoyed spending time gardening, which brought her to the Danville Garden Club. And, even with her involvement in so many clubs and activities, she was also a dedicated member at St. James United Methodist Church. Doris especially loved her family, and was always devoted to them as well as her beloved friends. A service to celebrate the life of Doris Chapman will be held at 12 PM on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. Reverend Justin Snider will officiate. Private interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 11AM-12PM prior to the service on Wednesday, also at St. James. Memorials may be made in Doris' name to the Cancer Foundation or to St. James United Methodist Church. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville is in charge of arrangements.
