Doris A. Swem

Cayuga, Ind. - Doris A. Swem, 89, of Cayuga, passed away at 11:10 a.m. EDT Saturday, October 26, 2019 at her residence.

She was born September 23, 1930 in Mentcle, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Earl Bryan and Jennie Catherine (Thornton) Straw.

Doris first married James William Dudley, Sr.. She later married Willis E. Swem on November 19, 1972 in Cayuga, Indiana. He preceded her in death on February 16, 1989.

Survivors include her children: Darlene (Rick) Lewis of Cayuga, Indiana; Jim (Viv) Dudley of Ft. Myers, Florida; step daughter: Alice (Bob) Breitzman of Arizona and step son: Ron (Diane) Dudley of Connecticut; two grandchildren: Dane and Cole Dudley; great grandson: Bennett Dudley; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; two sisters: Jean Beighley of Attica, Indiana and Pat (Ralph) Menard of Strongsville, Ohio; one brother: Gary (Vickie) Straw of Canton, Ohio; sister-in-law: Betty Haas of Danville, Illinois and her dog: Max.

Doris was preceded in death by two step children; one sister and two brothers.

Doris formerly worked at Coffing Brothers Orchard south of Covington. She also did babysitting and housekeeping in the area. She was a member of the Cayuga Church of the Nazarene and Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Doris enjoyed reading, working on crossword puzzles, coloring, watching game shows, soap operas and spending time with little ones.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. EDT Thursday, October 31, 2019 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Don Morgan; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the funeral home with a memorial service by the Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
