Donnie K. Little

Donnie K. Little, 90, of Oakwood, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 11, 1934, in Danville, Illinois, Don was the son of the late George and Sarah (Thatcher) Little. He married Edith Hines on June 12, 1960, in Danville, after meeting her while they both worked at S. S. Kresge’s. Their deep bond lasted over six decades, and Edith survives, along with their son, Jason Little; daughter-in-law, Blanca Guardiola; and beloved granddaughter, Liliana (Lily) Little.

Don is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Timothy and Richard Hines; sisters-in-law, Betty Byers and Kathryn Seyfert; and special nieces and nephews, Sarah, Mary, Konny, Christopher, and Thomas Peterwas along with many others from Edith’s side of the family. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Delores Bracewell and Barbara Peterwas, and his brothers, Larry and Lee Little.

After graduating from Danville High School, Don proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he embarked on a lifelong career at Hyster, where he worked for over forty years before retiring. Don had a rich social life and maintained lifelong friendships through shared adventures, whether camping, attending events, or enjoying meals together.

A man of deep faith, Don was a dedicated member of Second Church of Christ in Danville. His gentle soul and unwavering devotion to God touched the lives of those around him. He also proudly served on the Post 210 Honor Guard, honoring his fellow veterans with the same dignity he brought to all aspects of his life.

Don was an avid reader, with a special love for Louis L’Amour novels and history books. His passion for track and field in high school carried into adulthood, where he competed as a member of the Kennekuk Road Runners, winning numerous medals. Above all, Don treasured time spent with family, who were his greatest source of pride and joy.

The Little family extends their heartfelt thanks to OSF Hospice, VA Illiana Health Care System, and Bradley Grissom APN CNP MSN for their compassionate care. They are also deeply grateful to family and friends for their outpouring of love, support, and thoughtful meals during this time.
