Donna Masengale

Donna Masengale, 70, of Rossville, IL, passed away on April 13, 2016, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. After a long, courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MLS) cancer, Donna found peace while surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 20, 1945, in Danville, IL, the daughter of James Russell and Martha Loretta (Hargan) Miles. She married John Masengale on July 10, 1965, in Rossville, IL. She will be deeply missed by her large family. Surviving are husband, John; daughter, Sue (Brad) Burton of Hoopeston; brothers Robert Miles of Penfield, IL, Richard (Janet) Miles of Gifford, IL, Melvin (Sara) Miles of Potomac, IL, and Harold Miles of Potomac, IL; sister, Linda (Richard) Post of Royal, IL; sister-in-law Lenice Miles of Penfield, IL; four grandchildren, Tanner and Colby Burton, Ashley and Ellie Masengale; and several nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Brian Masengale; sister, Darlene Seamen, and brother, Bud Miles. Donna was a graduate of Rossville High School and worked as a switchboard operator at Ray O'Herron's in Danville for 25 years before retiring in 2015. She was the Director of the Vermilion County Housing Authority for many years. Her life joys included cooking, vacationing on Hilton Head Island, and boating on Kentucky Lake. But what Donna absolutely loved the most was traveling to watch her grandchildren's sporting events and spending time with them. During her cancer treatments, she found great comfort in the exceptional care and support of her nurses in Danville, at the Carle Cancer Center, and the Barnes Jewish 5900 team. A celebration of Donna's life will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016, 10 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, IL. Ann Schwartz and Wade Meranda are officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2016, from 2 - 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Donna will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials can be made in her name to First Presbyterian Church in Hoopeston, First United Methodist Church in Rossville, IL, or the Sharon L. Bassett Foundation.
