Donetta Logan

Donetta Logan, 68, of Champaign, IL, passed away at 2:00 am on Friday, April 2, 2016 at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman, IL. She was born July 17, 1947 in Beardstown, IL , the daughter of Donald and Sadie Stratton Logan. Survivors include one daughter, Michele (Brian) Adams of Fisher, IL; one son, John (Catherine) McConkey of Champaign, IL; one brother, Darrell (Tanya) Logan; four sisters, Patricia (Charlie) Hierman, Barbara (Mike) Dorwart, Judy Fowler, and Kathleen (Mike) Davis; three grandchildren, Gage Adams, Erin McConkey, and Grace Adams. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth Sutterfield. Donetta graduated in 1965 from Triopia High School in Chapin, IL. She joined the US Navy, and was a recipient of the National Defense Medal. Upon returning from the Navy, she graduated from Parkland Community College where she was a student of their first nursing program in 1975. Donetta earned her adult/geriatric nurse practitioner certificate from the University of Arizona in 1984. Nursing was truly her passion and identity. She was an advocate for many causes, and enjoyed participating in the "Bark for Life" with her dog Rainbow. Donetta was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a breast cancer survivor who possessed a strong faith and sense of humor that pulled her through her many hardships. Donetta's daughter-in-law, Catherine McConkey, also lost her mother, Bobbi Higgins, on March 31. Donetta and Bobbi were great friends, and called themselves the "mighty, mighty grandmas." To honor their friendship, the family will celebrate their lives in a joint memorial service. A celebration of the lives of Donetta Logan and Bobbi Higgins will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Stone Creek Church, 2502 South Race Street in Urbana, with Pastor Ricky Spindler officiating. A visitation for family and friends will held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made in Donetta's name to the COPD Foundation or Carle Hospice.
