WESTVILLE - Donald (Dude) Ernest Spicer, 82, of Westville, died at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at his residence. Donald was born April 15, 1924, in Hawbuck, Illinois, the only child of Ernest Earl and Stella F. (Nier) Spicer. Both his parents preceded him in death. He married Anita Perez Chiaffredo on July 16, 1951, in Covington, Indiana. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2001. She survives and resides in Westville. Surviving family members include: his two daughters, Donna (Jeff) Ratkowski of Plano, TX, and Paula (Ron) See of Glen Ellyn, IL, a son, Robert (Janice) Chiaffredo of Hollister, CA; six grandchildren, Ryan (Rebecca) Ratkowski of Plano, TX, Kristina (Darren) Ratkowski Havemann of Houston, TX, Lisa Koonce of Aurora, IL, Angela (Stephen) Koonce Gadlage of Royal Oak, MI, Tony Chiaffredo of Santa Clara, CA, and Paul (Elizabeth) Chiaffredo of Atlanta, GA; and great-grandchild, Allison Gadlage of Royal Oak, MI. Mr. Spicer graduated from Westville Township High School in 1942. He was a sergeant in the U. S. Army, European and Pacific Theaters, during World War II. He retired from General Motors, Central Foundry, Tilton, in June of 1981. He served as president of the Westville Grade School Board. He was a member of UAW 579, St. Marys Catholic Church, and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 51. He enjoyed all sports, especially playing softball and baseball. He enjoyed rooting for the Illini, Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed traveling, throwing horseshoes, reading, and spending time with his family. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday May 6, 2006 at St. Marys Church in Westville followed by military rites conducted by the Westville American Legion Post 51 and burial in Georgetown Cemetery, Georgetown, IL. Father David Erickson will be officiating services. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm. Friday May 5, 2006 at Sunset Souths Westville Chapel with a Wake Service at 6:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Marys Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
