Donald Don Bruce Schlacter, 71, of Catlin,, passed away at 12:04 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2005 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Don was born on October 4, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Harry and Inez (McElrath) Schlacter. He married Roberta Traxler on January 30, 1965 in Forsyth, Illinois. She survives. He is also survived by his step-mother- Betty Craddock of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two brother- Jack (Evelyn) Schlacter of Coronado, California and Richard (Barbara) Schlacter of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; half-brother- David (Betty) Schlacter of Peoria, Illinois; half-sister- Karen (David) Ori of Collierville, Tennessee; sister-in-law- Barb (Gerry) Tester of Springfield, Missouri; one very special niece Nicole Tester of Gainesville, Florida and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Don was a 1952 graduate of Champaign Senior High School. After high school he joined the Unites States Air Force and served from 1955-1958. He later graduated from Millikin University in 1966 with his bachelors degree. After college Don worked for General Motors for 25 years until retiring in 1991. Don enjoyed doing fine woodworking. He also enjoyed working in his yard and in his garden. He also enjoyed spending time boating and fishing. A celebration of the life of Donald (Don) Bruce Schlacter will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Rev. Philip McGarvey officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Friends Creek Cemetery in Argenta, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Dons name to the American Diabetes Association or to the Gastro-Intestinal Research Foundation 70 E. Lake St. Suite 1015 Chicago, Illinois 60601.
