Donald Roy Smith

Donald Smith, 79, of Danville, passed away on October 14, 2013 at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. He was born on March 23, 1934 in Hoopeston, IL, the son of Paul and Rachael (Long) Smith. He married Mary Bernard on June 12, 1957 in Danville. She survives. Surviving him are two sons, Donald Smith of Loxa, IL and Scott Smith of Bement, IL, one daughter, Cheri (David) Wysong of Pana, IL, one sister, Carol Sheets of Danville nine grandchildren, Taysha Smith, Nichole (Jairo) Ocampo, Jessica Smith, Brian Smith, Jordan (Stephanie) Wysong, Hannah Wysong, Taylor Smith, Elaina Smith and Audrey Smith, three great grandchildren, Teresa Partain, Jayde Partain and Grace Crawley. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Stanley Smith. He was a graduate of Danville High School before entering the United States Army where he served from 1956-1958. Don started working at the local grocery until eventually owning it. He was also a Field Service Engineer for the Pitney Bowes Co. for 25 years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Anchor Lodge #980, Gao Grotto, Scottish Rite of Danville, and was a 3-time past president of the Barbershop Quartet Chapter SPEBSQSA. Donald was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church and loved to go fishing, ride motorcycles, boating, camping, traveling and was always fixing the unfixable. A celebration of Donalds Life will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Cornerstone Christian Church with Pastor Kevin Cox officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Entombment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Donalds name to the Gao Grotto, Cornerstone Christian Church or Mercy Ships. Masonic Rites will take place at 2:00 PM on Sunday at the start of visitation and Military Rites will be performed on Monday at the cemetery by the American Legion Post #210.
