Donald Eugene Newlin, 84, passed this earthly existence, Monday, July 7th, 2008, 10:15pm, at the VA Illiana Medical Center, Danville, IL. Born March 3rd, 1924, in Georgetown, to Clayton and Nelle (Lemon) Newlin, Don helped on the farm, worked at Beanie Biggs gas station, was a 1942 graduate of Georgetown High School, then went off to Europe to fight for our freedom. After his return from the War, he married Dorothy Lee Cherry on November 30th, 1946, in Pocahontas, Arkansas, and had two children, Donna Lee and David Jay Newlin. Don farmed near Dana, IN, all his life, retired from Tee Pak in Danville, IL, and spent several years as a bus driver for the North Vermillion School Corporation. He was a life long member of Elwood Friends Meeting, where he learned to love the Lord, and gained the strong faith that followed him through his life. His hobbies included: woodworking, antiques, collecting things, practical joking, and spreading joy wherever he went. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his beloved wife, Dorothy; his brother, Bennett Haworth Newlin; and his sister-in-law, Ann (Gloss) Newlin. Don is survived by: his daughter and son-in-law, Donna Lee and Jon Farthing of Cayuga; his son and daughter-in-law, David Jay and Carla (Rogers) Newlin of Georgetown; and two grandchildren, Krista Lee and Katie Ann Farthing. Also surviving are Dons three nephews, Greg, Jeff, & Clay Newlin, as well as one niece, Annette Hoskins. Don and Dorothy had a special friend, Doris Arrasmith. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to Elwood Friends Meeting or to the VA Illiana Medical Center of Danville.
